PORT GLASGOW HIGH SCHOOL

CRAFTS
Third year Asdan pupils taught Clune Park 's primary seven how to make a variety of Christmas craft items which were then sold at their Christmas Fayre.

PEACE ONE DAY
All teaching and non teaching staff at Port Glasgow High School, were joined by pupils to take part in Peace One Day, an event focused on making the world a more peaceful place and, in particular, making the school environment one that supported non conflict. Everyone helped create a Wall of Peace by writing a peaceful message on brick shaped cards, which were then used to construct the wall. Teaching also focused on peace issues but the highlight of the day was a lunch time concert, performed by both staff and pupils to promote the peaceful message. The concert raised £115 which was sent to the charity, Peace One Day, which helps raise awareness of the United Nations International Day of Peace, now a day of global ceasefire and non-violence, held annually in September.

LEARN 2 EARN
All first year pupils took part in a Learn 2 Earn day, which involved being led through a number of activities including goal setting, assessing personal skills and career choices, by trainers from Young Enterprise Scotland

ECO-SCHOOL
Aiming for Eco-School status is high on the agenda for an after school group of first year pupils at Port Glasgow High School . They are introducing a paper recycling service for classrooms, have surveyed staff opinion on the use of Ecover soap powder for clothes and are investigating ways of improving the school environment by planting native species of trees.

INNOVATION FUND

Determined to Succeed's Innovation Fund grant to Port Glasgow High School has gone a long way to facilitating its enterprising initiatives, through the purchase of a variety of equipment. A laser cutter, which cuts and scores a wide variety of materials with great precision, is being used by many year groups.

First year pupils, who have formed an after school Enterprise club, are making and selling jewellery and are using the laser machine to produce key rings. A Young Enterprise group of sixth years are also off to a flying start with orders flooding in for items of personalised glassware all made possible by the laser cutter.

A video and photographic induction presentation is also being created by first year pupils thanks to the funding. This will be presented by the pupils themselves to P7s in their former primary school.

Additional IT equipment bought through the fund has helped fifth year pupils deliver science programmes to Kilmacolm Primary School . It has also helped enhance peer support training for sixth year, assisting with their delivery of the Personal and Social Development programme to S1 pupils.
