ST MARY'S PRIMARY SCHOOL
S.C.I.A.F
"Hello, we are Aaron and Siobhan two P7's from St. Mary's and we are going
to tell you about our schools fund-raising efforts for S.C.I.A.F. during
Lent.
To start off we organised and held a bring 'n' buy / cake 'n' candy
morning. The whole school came and it was really successful. We had a
book stall, soft toy stall, games, a BIG raffle (loads of prizes) and guess
the teddy bear's birthday. It was awesome! We added all the money up and
it totaled £377. Our teachers organised someone from S.C.I.A.F to come to
our school so we could present them with a cheque. Even our local
newspaper came to interview us.
The two men from S.C.I.A.F. also showed us a slideshow about the work of
S.C.I.A.F and we were all quite astonished about the amount of work
S.C.I.A.F does to help people. A few days later a lady from Fairtrade
came to tell us about he organisation. She played games with us and told
us how some people only get a little amount of money for their goods even
though they've spent a long time making them.
What are we doing now? Well, all the classes are busy filling up their
"wee boxes" and we've heard that some classes have already reached the
target they'd set for the whole of Lent!
Soon the P7's will be having a sponsored silence for an hour. P7's stay
quiet for an hour! Our teachers and parents have their doubts.
We hope you have enjoyed reading about St. Mary's and how our school always
tries to help other people that are less fortunate than ourselves.
