ST JOSEPH'S PRIMARY SCHOOL
AHEAD OF TIME
Service to the community was at the heart of the enterprise programme established by pupils of St Joseph 's Primary School. Calendars were produced, featuring photographs of everyone linked with the school which were sold to families and friends.
Pupils worked together in groups to research and create a name for their company, with Ahead of Time voted the winner. A management team was selected based on the individual skills of the pupils then, through after school supported study sessions, deadlines were set for the calendar production.
Commenting on the project, aptly-named Holly Callander, who was nominated Ahead of Time managing director, said: "Working as a team from start to finish was central to the success of the project. Negotiations on budget and how it could best be used took place with head teacher, Mrs Moth. A reasonable price had to be decided to ensure that people would buy them and result in a profit not a loss.
Assistant Director, Grant Bryceland, added: "We used and learned different skills like computing, scanning pictures and inserting them into the calendar. We learned to work with others within certain timescales. These skills will help us in the future."
alendars were advertised to parents, ensuring every family had the opportunity to buy. The results were tremendous and pupils loved the fun project. Not about to rest on their laurels, the team are setting up a new company to create a DVD yearbook. They hope it is just as successful as Ahead of Time and, given their enthusiasm, the future looks bright.
