SACRED HEART AND GARVEL PRIMARY SCHOOL
TURNING A DRAMA INTO AN ENTERPRISE
Primary seven group, M & S Productions at Sacred Heart and Garvel, treated their local community to a performance of the school play, Pack up your troubles , turning a drama into a great enterprise and citizenship opportunity. People were invited to come along and enjoy the show followed by a traditional afternoon tea. Edit.
Parents were asked to assist with food preparation and the children chatted to visitors over tea. Residents of Holy Rosary Home joined parents, Earnhill Primary's pupils from years six and seven and the local Minister for the rousing show. Following consultation by the Pupil Council on "What makes a Good Monitor", primary seven pupils produced an advertisement and application form seeking wet play monitors.
With closing date upon them, applications were received from primary seven pupils, interviews arranged - the panel included the Active Schools Coordinator, janitor and members of the Pupil Council - and monitors appointed. In a bid to enhance school grounds, the Pupil Council approved the colourful initiative to buy and sell bulbs to school pupils and nursery children for planting last October. Those who bought the bulbs were allowed to plant them. As spring fast approaches, it is hoped that the colourful results will help brighten the school grounds. Primary five children composed a book of Scottish Sayings and hosted a launch inviting the entire school and local community. Primary seven pupils volunteer to be Buddies to primary one at Sacred Heart and Garvel children. Initially, they accompanied the youngsters at lunchtimes and have now cut this back to once every month. During the Citizenship/Health sessions, which started last September, Buddies also volunteer to read to primary one children once a month.
