OVERTON PRIMARY SCHOOL

IBM 2006

In school I was selected to do a speech at IBM s 3rd International Innovation awards dinner. It was a great honour for me as I got to open the dinner with a proper business speech and I think the school were pleased for me to do this as well. The thing I really enjoyed about it was that I got to wear a kilt the whole night and the tartan was the spirit of Bannockburn. It’s purple and a bluish colour and I was so pleased with the kilt. The evening was just magic and IBM were so kind they gave me a really nice watch.

French Fun

On the 26th of September it was the European Day of Languages and the primary seven pupils at Overton Primary School got selected to participate in the competition at I.B.M. Mrs Cannon, Louisa and Mrs McKay picked seven finalists and they sang a song or they read a poem. The finalist were Amy Buchan who was they winner, Graeme Newbury who came in second place and Iain Beattie came in third place. There was also Emma Ruddy, Aaron Ewing, Tamsyn Roberts and Matthew Gray were all runners up and they were all just great. We all had a fabulous day and we enjoyed it very much and the I.B.M staffs were really friendly and helpful and I would like to thank all the staff and I hope that Overton Primary participates next year.

Harvest Festival

Like every year we had another successful Harvest Festival. This year it was a little bit different because now that we are in Primary 7 it meant that we had to do a play about Jesus. We decided to do “Jesus feeds the 5000” which was great because instead of pretending to have a loaf, my teacher’s grandad came into the school and made a real harvest loaf with us which we used in the scene when Jesus was feeding the 5000.

The part of Jesus was played by Aaron Ewing who did a spectacular job. At the end we got a great clap from the audience as we had invited elderly people from Merino Court to listen to us sing our songs and to stay behind afterwards for a cup of tea and something to eat. It was also Primary 7’s job to serve the tea and offer them a biscuit.

This year after the guests had their tea and coffee they got a jar of jam and a small bunch of flowers each.

Our Harvest Loaf

Our Harvest Loaf

Just a few days before the Harvest Service, Primary seven made a harvest loaf with our teacher’s Grandfather, Mr Osborne. He brought in the ingredients we needed to make it.

At first we made the shape of the bread using the dough and cracked an egg and put in a bit of water in with the egg. We put a wee bit of egg on the dough. We then made little balls of dough to put on top of the egg. We then put it in the oven to bake. After it was finished we took photographs of the loaf.

The bread was used at our Harvest Service.

POETRY
Last Autumn, everyone in P6 entered a national poetry competition. At first when Miss Kinnon told us that we were doing a poetry competition, no one liked it at first but now everyone says they loved it. From My Class to Sheep and more, all of the poems were great. To prepare for it we did a lot or poetry lessons. We learned about metaphors, feelings and mood in poetry. When the results came back 11 people had made it through. Some people didn’t believe it but the next day more came and Miss Kinnon told us the people’s names so more people were happy. About three people weren’t through and I think they were ok with that. The book will be out soon, we also made a P6 poetry book and it was really good. Everyone did a great job on it and when it was all over we were really proud of ourselves.

CLYDE IN THE CLASSROOM
On January 24th we all went up to the Science Centre and got told that we were getting fish to look after. We got told how to treat them and when we got back we had to pick 2 fish monitors. They were Darren S and Emma T. At first the fish hadn’t arrived so Darren and Emma had to practise so they didn’t make any mistakes. Finally the fish arrived. Darren and Emma had to be extra careful because if they didn’t most of them would die. They had to change frozen water bottles twice a day to keep they water cold enough. They also have to make sure that the water pump stays attached and that the water is clean. A couple of weeks later 1 fish died but about 5 hatched so we were very pleased with ourselves. A couple of days later the Clyde in the Classroom helper came to see how we were doing with the fish but sadly the tank was leaking so she sent us a new one but it was smaller so we had to put less bottles in. It is fine now and some more fish have hatched. We are changing the fish monitors every week.
