My name is Gemma Cummings and I am in the school council and the enterprise committee in our school. We have a digi view out side our head teachers office and the children find it very interesting. We have to change the digi pictures and the pictures show you things like our anti-vandalism project ,Primary six's Impetus award and some other pupils in Primary 3 doing a litter project.
Recently in Earnhill primary 6 have been doing something called the Impetus project and we had written a song
called "we can change the world". When we had finished we then passed the lyrics to two local musicians
called Gary Deveney and Jim Lang who put music to our words with their own voices but then on the 8th March
we recorded the song with the whole school and with the help of Garvel Deaf School and Sacred Heart.

Technology Fair
On Thursday 1st of March we held a Technology Fair. We had gas masks, fruit salad, houses made from different things, flags and torches to name but a few of the excellent items the children in our school worked together to make. Each class made displays and some people from each class manned the stalls to explain what they had done to design and make the huge array of items.
P7/6 made fantastic gas masks, although some of us tried them on and they didn’t all quite fit! P7/6 also showed fabulous pop up books they had made and sold throughout the school. The books were all about animals and were really interesting. P3/2 made Roman chariots and bullas which are necklaces the Roman’s made and wore. They put charms in to little pouches and believed they brought good luck.
P6/5 designed a new E.U flag. The class split into groups and worked in teams deciding which was the best design. Then they made a flag out of material and it was very good. P5/4 made some Lovely Fruit Cups and sold them for everyone to taste. They also made torches using batteries, wire, tubes, bulbs and paper fasteners. They were brilliant.
P4/3 showed us their Viking boats and pop up Christmas cards. P2/1 had a display showing photos of earmuffs they had designed and made. They also showed models of houses that they had planned and prepared in groups. During the planning process they tried making bricks of different materials and also checked out how wind would affect them by building straw, stick and brick houses just like “The Three Little Pigs” and trying to blow them down with a hairdryer.
Some pupils came from Greenock High School with their teachers and used the computer to design a light for a bike by using a CAD computer package. They also brought along loads of objects they had made out of metal and wood like a trowel, a tray, candle holders and a book end. Then they spent time coming round and talking to us about our work.
There was a man there showing us a set of small hydrogen fuelled cars they were designed for future real cars to prevent the terrible loss of all energy sources. They use a certain amount of H2O (water to be precise) and if they make it I am sure that it will prevent the loss of oil and save the planet. So we enjoyed watching the cars bob along the floor.
While all of these displays were being checked out by all the visitors, the classes got a chance to look round and to work together in groups doing challenges with Duplo and Knex sets.
Well aware of the benefits of operating as an Enterprising school, this is just one of many initiatives at Earnhill Primary. It provides opportunities for its children to be consulted, involved and responsible for many aspects of school life.
Christmas Fayre at Earnhill
On Thursday 14th December we at Earnhill Primary held a Christmas Fayre full of fantastic things all children had been busy making.
At 1:30the doors opened and in came crowds of people desperate to buy all the fabulous things that the classes had been making like calendars that were hand made by children from Garvel Deaf Centre.
P7/6 made fantastic gift bags, cross stitch snowmen and hanging decorations, P7/6 also sold snow globes and lanterns. P2/1 made lovely Christmas masks and finger puppets. P6/5 made some wonderfully decorated gift boxes.
P4/3 and P5/4 got in the action too by selling their terrific snowman calendars, cards and beautiful poinsettia plates.
P3/2 made lovely tree decorations and Christmas novelty badges.
Three girls came from Greenock High School with their teacher; they were selling fancy baskets with candles, toiletries and stationery.
P6/5 were doing teddy tombola, you give 30p to the person who is doing the tombola and you get a ticket from the tin, if you get 1 of the numbers that’s on the board you win a teddy. P6/5 made stockings. There were lots of raffle prizes and lucky Scott won the guess the weight of the cake.
PUPILS GOT CRAFTY
PUPILS GOT CRAFTY at Earnhill Primary in preparation of their Christmas Fayre, which saw everyone involved in making goods for sale. Primary six were responsible for planning and organising the event, while each class publicised and ran their own stall.
Year groups from one to five created different seasonal items including masks, door hangers, calendars and Christmas cards. Primary six made Christmas bracelets and purses and also designed and sold personalised Christmas badges. Santa's Grotto was organised and manned by primary seven, who also worked with the PTA to run the popular tea and coffee room.
Well aware of the benefits of operating as an Enterprising school, this is just one of many initiatives at Earnhill Primary. It provides opportunities for its children to be consulted, involved and responsible for many aspects of school life. Staff are also increasingly sharing learning intentions with pupils.
Primary four youngsters have also organised and presented an exciting Viking assembly, while primary seven arranged a fun day for Children in Need, enjoyed by all the school.
Now all pupils are busy planning a Science Showcase, which they will present to parents and friends of Earnhill at the school on Wednesday 8 March 2006 .
The enthusiastic and active Earnhill Junior Road Safety Officers are organising a variety of campaigns and competitions including its walking bus and walk one kilometre active health project. The health group also support the school Eco programme and will be running a health week for pupils and parents at the end of March.
