Why Enterprise?Many people may ask "what is the point of teaching children in Primary 1 about enterprise education?" The answer is simple. Enterprise Education is not just about setting up companies and making money for school funds. The essence of it all is the learning experience and teaching approach to:
People may also think, "young people don't leave school and set up business," but why not says Robert Lamb, Enterprise Development Officer: " Scotland has an admirable history of creating entrepreneurs and innovators. Why confine our enviable record to history? "New businesses need to be established and who better to achieve this than our local young people? It may not be at 16, 17 or even 21, but if they are aware of the opportunity and the support organisations available to them, then where is the harm? It is about making informed choices." What can parents and carers do to support enterprise education? "Simple, show an interest, ask questions and support activities and events at your local school," says Robert. "Talk to children about your job and that of other family members. Always refer to future years as really important, with hard work and commitment bringing the success they deserve. "Above everything else, try to be positive. It is after all very true about negative people experiencing negative things and positive people experience positive things. I think we should all give it a go!" |
